Lab Services - Urinalysis

There are a number of questions about coverage for urinalysis.  DHMH will be posting complete answers shortly.

In the interim, programs funded by grant funds are permitted (with local substance abuse authority approval) to purchase toxicology specimens for patients covered by MA/PAC using their grant funds.

The customer service number for LabCorp is 1-, Option 5.

Q:         LabCorp requires an MD NPI to set up an account with a treatment program.  Some programs don't have an MD.  For programs not funded with ADAA grant funds, is there an avenue for payment for our Medicaid clients for their tox screens?

A:         For non-grant funded programs, compliance with LabCorp requirements is necessary to set up an account with LapCorp.

Q:         I understand that programs are having problems setting up an account with LabCorp, which is the lab used by the MCO's for tox screens.   This lab processes all specimens retrieved from patients with PAC/MA.  The lab bills the MCO directly.

At issue is the NPI number.  One is required for an account to be opened, but LabCorp is requiring that an MD NPI be used.  Since some programs don't have an MD, this is presenting problems.

A:         DHMH is working to resolve this issue.  In the interim, if you are unable to set up an account, you are allowed to use your ADAA grant funds to purchase toxicology services for PAC/MA recipients.  Once a resolution is reached, this information will be forwarded to all jurisdictions, and the grant would no longer support the cost of specimens for patients with PAC/MA.
