The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration (ADAA), Substance Abuse Management Information Systems (SAMIS) was developed to collect data on substance abuse clients who receive treatment in any funded (federal, state, local) substance abuse treatment clinic certified either by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Office of Health Care Quality, or the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The SAMIS information is used for the following purposes:
- To provide ADAA substance abuse programs, government entitites and the public with accurate statistical data concerning the prevalence, type and pattern of substance abuse problems in Maryland.
- To aid ADAA in the planning, evaluation and management of the statewide Alcohol and Drug Abuse treatment system.
- To provide information to the government and legislature at federal, State and local levels for policy development and decision making.
- Reviewing substance providers for data accuracy.
- To submit data to the Center for Substance Abuse (CSAT) to meet the requirements of the Federal Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988.
